About Philile Masango

I have over 18 years’ experience in Communication and Media; working for international organizations at both government and corporate levels. I've gained vast experience in Public Relations, Public Diplomacy, Advocacy, Development Communication, Multimedia Management, Media Relations, Marketing and Strategic Partnerships. I've worked for the U.S. government as South Africa’s Public Communications Specialist for their flagship HIV/AIDS program PEPFAR. In this position my responsibilities included developing and implementing PEPFAR South Africa’s communication strategy, managing media relations and conferencing activities, forging and maintaining relations with PEPFAR partners and other donors, as well as generating and updating content for PEPFAR publications including social media. I also had the responsibility of drafting press releases and conceptualizing and managing projects e.g. DREAMS Oprah Winfrey (2016) and GirlSafe empowerment events (2017). These events were each among the top five trending live events on South African social media. I've previously worked in mainstream media; SABC and Kaya FM as a TV and radio content producer and presenter, as well as at Don’t Look down Productions as an online content generator for a popular reality show Big Brother Africa. These fast-paced environments skilled me in developing strong copy writing abilities, and capacity to work under pressure on continuous live content whilst paying critical attention to detail. My career began in Swaziland as Senior Journalist and Anchor at Swazi TV; winning a number of regional and national awards including Investigative Journalist of the Year 2003’. I hold a Master of Arts and BA Honors Degrees in Journalism and Media Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand; Diploma in Journalism & Mass Communication from the University of Swaziland and a Social Entrepreneurship Certificate from the Gordon Institute of Business Science
