Agrivida's GRAINZYME® technology is an innovative platform that produces enzymes and other proteins inside a kernel of corn. It’s a natural, convenient, and profitable way to introduce beneficial enzymes such as phytase, glucanase, and other proteins into animal diets by simply replacing a small amount of corn with GRAINZYME corn.

Research activities focused on molecular genetics and metabolic engineering of industrially relevant bioprocesses, including production of amino acids in Corynebacterium, synthesis of isoprenoids and other small molecules in Rhodococcus and Streptomyces, and assembly of biopolymers in Ralstonia; project management activities included writing and managing grants and proposals, managing budgets and deadlines, supervising and training numerous post-doctoral scientists, graduate students and undergraduates on a variety of research projects; multi-year research collaborations with Archer-Daniels Midland, Merck Research Laboratories, E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co, and Shell Oil.Teaching activities included organizing and teaching the “Microbial Genetics Project Laboratory” course for third and fourth year undergraduate students each Fall semester (1994-2007); taught principles of experimental design, project management, data interpretation, technical writing and oral presentation; Instructor and lecturer in other graduate and undergraduate courses at MIT.

Developed molecular strategies for improving yield and quality traits in corn, including starch accumulation and herbicide resistance; developed a novel gene expression system using RNA viruses and hammerhead ribozymes.
