Professional Profile: 35 years’ experience and proven success in research, development, marketing and business development of Orthopaedic medical devices gained in a multidisciplinary international environment. Since 2012 I have worked as a self-employed industry consultant mentoring SMEs in the medical device sector, and co-founding two SME’s.Business coaching SME’s: I focus on strategic product development, marketing and independent technical reviews that compliment business development. Product & project management: I have product/project management experience in high profile Trauma, CMF, Spinal and Orthopaedic projects. Examples: 1) commercialization of the Gamma locking nail and its Asian variants (per annum~350mil$). 2) in 2008 we established the first augmented screw augmentation regulatory claim (EU) in combination with HydroSet injectable cement (per annum ~35mil$).Developing and commercialising innovative biomaterials that augmented fixation of implants in poor quality bone, a major unmet clinical need:1) Co-founded GPBio Ltd, Ireland in 2013 for developing adhesive biomaterials2) Created an SME syndicate in 2013 that developed a combination of the iN3 injectable cement and the N-Force screw for augmenting fixation of bone after trauma. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBsGqwYpZtY). 3) Co-founded Biomimetic Innovations Ltd, Ireland which is currently commercialising OsSticR, a patented, adhesive platform technology with two multinational implant companies. Translational research: Since 2014, as part time adjunct Professor, (https://katalog.uu.se/profile/?id=N14-226), I have been directing applied biomaterials research in the department of Professor Håkan Engqvist (https://katalog.uu.se/profile/?id=N96-1347) at Angstrom Laboratories University of Uppsala Sweden. This has been a very productive relationship and, in particular, has enabled us to establish science underlying the OsSticR adhesive in both hard and soft tissues. This is detailed in the open access publications listed below.I also mentor some advanced biomaterials projects with Professor Dominique Pioletti (https://people.epfl.ch/dominique.pioletti) in the department of biomechanical orthopaedics at the EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland. Most recently this has included a hydrogel based adhesive technology.
