Liaising with Business Analysts, produce a functional specification from the business requirements. Once the functional specification is agreed upon, a detailed softwaredesign is produced. If it was a large project, prototypes were produced, so that a walkthrough could be done with the Business Analyst to ensure that the proposed functionality met the business requirements. Development took place within a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).The software produced is retail software used to capture data at point of sale. It also allows the setting up and tracking of products in the warehouse and online sales. The last project I was responsible for was producing software to control the printing of documents in Carphone Warehouse stores (invoices, contracts, etc). This included producing XML scripts to produce DTDs to communicate with Tibco. After gaining the ISEB Certificate in Systems Modeling Techniques, I used UML to design the final project that I worked on, which was to add marketing messages to invoices and contracts.As well as my main role using the Uniface 4GL, my work included using Oracle PL/SQL for querying the database and to create auditing and batch processing procedures.Most recently we were making much use of offshore partners in India, and this required me to produce functional specifications which were sent offshore for the coding to be done, liase with the offshore team to ensure they understood what was to be done, review the code to ensure coding standards were met, and test the resulting programs to ensure that they met the requirements.Mentoring junior developers was also part of my role.
