I am the Mary Harris Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC). Prior to UTC, I was a Postdoctoral Scholar in the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. I received my Ph.D. in Corporate Strategy from UT: Austin. My research focuses on understanding how entrepreneurship can be a tool for economic and community revitalization. I am particularly interested in how entrepreneurs assist in the renewal of struggling regions, “dying” industries, and displaced technologies. Through my research and consulting, I've worked with hundreds of entrepreneurs and investors. I've published over 70 articles and book chapters, serve as the associate editor of Journal of Business Venturing Insights, and am on several editorial boards, including Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Small Business Economics, Strategic Organization, and Entrepreneurship Research Journal. I am currently serving (or have served) as a guest/special issue editor at Community Development, Industry and Innovation, and Journal of Business Venturing.
