Designed and built diode-pumped ultrafast lasers, both solid-state and fibers. Investigated various pulse-shaping and measurement techniques. Used these systems to investigate molecular responses with impulsive stimulated Raman spectroscopy. Built imaging systems using microscopy and holography, using second and third harmonic generation as the basis for imaging. Worked on a new application of tomographic imaging. Performed various numerical modeling and simulations of optical systems. Performed data processing on spectroscopy and holography data. Wrote data acquisition software that interfaced with hardware components.

Designed and built ultrafast laser pulse systems including optical chirped-pulse amplification and nonlinear optical conversion for infrared generation. Worked as part of multi-Institute collaborative team building COLTRIMS, which measures photo-ionization processes of single atoms or molecules. Performed numerical calculations of ultrafast nonlinear pulse conversion. Wrote ultrafast pulse measurement software.

Built and modified pulsed laser systems. Designed, modeled, built, and analysed various approaches, comparing behavior of different materials. Numerical simulations of nonlinear optical conversion in anisotropic and periodically poled materials. Studied continuous-wave, intra-cavity nonlinear optical conversion, including thermal lensing. Wrote software to simulate laser mode stability with simple user interface.
