I work as part of the OR Hub at Defra; a kind of internal consultancy for operational research. We support the department with analysis using the full range of OR techniques on both a project-by-project basis and with general purpose tools and guidance.

My research in Prof. Ian Fisher's group at Stanford is in the broad area of advanced materials with my own contributions falling within the sub-fields of superconductors and ‘strongly-correlated’ electronic systems. Practically this involves the synthesis and detailed characterization of novel materials in order to uncover the physical mechanisms that drive them to exhibit unusual properties; properties which are of significant interest in the wider world and will ultimately enable the technologies of the future.In addition to my research I am proud to contribute as a post-doctoral representative to the excellent work of the Equity and Inclusion committee that works to promote and support diversity in physics at Stanford.

My postgraduate research in the group of Prof. Antony Carrington at the University of Bristol focused primarily on the physics of high-temperature superconductors and developing new instrumentation with which to measure the properties of these fascinating and important materials to higher precision. In pursuing these goals I enjoyed extensive international collaborations and had the opportunity to present my findings all over the world, from Japan, to Europe and America.

I was a teaching assistant in the undergraduate physics lab classes at the University of Bristol, guiding students through experiments and helping them to understand the concepts that make the experiments effective and relevant. I was also responsible for marking the student's work and providing them with feedback. Throughout the year I felt like I was able to tailor my feedback and advice to my cohort of students as I got to know their personalities, learning styles, and areas of strengths and weaknesses.
