Philip Armstrong is a seasoned leader in the NFP/NGO sectors and working with those in need of help and those interested in helping those in need. His diverse background spans military service and over three decades of professional leadership. Philip has lived experience within both mental health and disability realms having been medically discharged from the Army. This experience led him to develop a deep understanding of veterans' and lived experience needs and challenges. Philip transitioned into leadership roles driven by his passion for helping.As the CEO of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA), Philip spearheaded significant change management initiatives. One of his key achievements was recognition by government and Private Health funds for grants and rebates. His advocacy work led to several legislative changes.He led the development and implementation of the first Scope of Practice for the Counselling and Psychotherapy profession in 2016, followed by a comprehensive revision in 2020, setting professional standards for the industry. During his tenure, he also managed 32 multicultural chapters, promoting inclusivity and cross-cultural engagement across Korean, Brazilian, Chinese, Muslim, and other diverse groups.Philip's work included engaging with mental health professionals and communities, ensuring that people in rural and remote locations had access to quality care and support.Currently, as the Chair and CEO of Optimise Potential, Philip leads national and international initiatives in primarily the APAC region, in mental health, professional supervision and workforce development. His RISE UP supervision program is delivered across a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, mental health, and commercial industries, promoting leadership, resilience, and effective team management. OP is currently project managing a grant under Qld Health in the Lived Experience (mental health) community and is involved in EAP.
