Lead the design and development of a platform to support data pipelines for unstructured data. Over the course of 4 years we supported the processing of millions of documents, building out complex implementation patterns capable of extracting millions of data points with a very high degree of accuracy.The small development team was able to leverage state-of-the-art technology and leading edge design choices to support a very wide range of use-cases. Deployed both on-premise in large financial clients and in AWS, we scaled and adapted to deliver incredible business value.Building on a decade in enterprise data management and big data, I was able to extend my reach to embrace these new data sources and new machine learning based techniques to build a production ready data platform.

Supported a new management team in the definition of a technology roadmap, reviewed on-shore and off-shore development and provided direction for future SaaS products for Warehousing, Data Management and Reporting.Involved heavily in hosted data management solutions with large sell-side firms and building out API services for a data warehousing platform to support becoming a common utility.

Worked on the ServiceMix ESB

Led a small globally distributed development team, and leveraged an off-shore development model, to support and extend releases of Apache Maven, Continuum and Archiva under the brand name Maestro. Highly active in the open source community, and working with large enterprises, we allowed them to produce real value through use of both the open source software (OSS) and also the development model that had been so successful. Overseeing the definition and development of the Maestro project, as well as working closely with large clients to understand how the use of repositories for build artifacts and extended metadata, can enable both legal processing and complex dependency management in the modern enterprise. We were also involved in the development of the Eclipse IAM project which was designed to bring more meta-data into the development life cycle and also provide Apache Maven capabilities in the Eclipse environment I was actively involved in development and led a PMO, and leveraging Basecamp, and other online tools, developed a suite of project reporting using Ruby.In the latter stages of the company we focused on building an open repository of build artifacts, as a Platform as a Service (PaaS), for developers to leverage. However a shortfall in funding led to our acquisition by Exist Global (where I stay on to support the merging of the teams and technology)

A founder in a self-started Enterprise Data Management software company, leveraging the experiences from working with a large number of financial services clients. I was responsible for the conception, design and implementation of an SOA data platform, which was implemented in large financial services companies in order to allow for the normalization of data, coming from multiple disparate systems within the organization. The initial release of the platform was made available to clients within 7 months of the start of the company and we became profitable within the first year. Our flagship product was built on an open source stack (JBoss) and was designed to leverage many of the cutting edge aspects of SOA, such as both REST and WS interfaces. In the final release, we successfully ported the underlying technology to JBI 1.0. The system remains in production environments after the company was sold, and is responsible for the processing of millions of data points, from over 50 market data vendors, and continues to prove successful.I was involved in all aspects, including leading the small development team, releases to clients, support - as well as sales and marketing. The broad experience base helped grow my vision up from pure architecture to understand the process of building and selling products in the enterprise landscape.

Working initially as a senior resource within the professional services arm of the organization, I was promoted to lead the Technology and Architecture. I began my tenure by working very closely with a number of large clients globally, providing support and architectural guidance for the implementation of large scale trading , reference data and sub-ledger platforms. I led the transition of the flagship product suite into a Service-Oriented Architecture - taking multiple languages and platforms and linking them together through a messaging infrastructure. With development teams in New York, London, Mumbai and Austria, I was responsible for ensuring that the global technology vision met both the demands of the investment banking world and was future-proofed. I was also responsible for presenting and discussing the next generation architecture with a number of high profile clients, including Deutsche Bank, RBC, UBS and Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi.

Working as an architect within a large scale project within CSFB, during the acquisition of DLJ. Part of the implementation team for a global sub-ledger. Led the integration of the messaging infrastructure and vendor products, as well as involvement in the overall architecture for the solutions within the Business Process Technical Architecture project.

Lead architect on the design and implementation of a messaging based solution, for both reference data and sub-ledger accounting, within the European arm of the investment bank. I worked within a small team, focused on the rapid delivery of a multi-environment deployment and testing infrastructure, and also to ensure the system scaled for global use.

Starting out on the help desk at the BBC I worked my way up through developer roles at the BBC, Logitech, Lloyds of London, Mobile Energy Trading to an architect. I winding journey filled with late nights, beers and lots to learning.
