His success in the courtroom includes a wide range of litigation, including individual and class action cases involving contract disputes; corporate governance and securities and financial products claims; Business and Professions Code section 17200 claims and business torts; insurance coverage and bad faith; real estate, land use and environmental issues; product liability and toxic torts; antitrust and trade regulation; patent, trademark and copyright infringement; trade secrets; governmental claims and liabilities; freedom of speech and religious protection under the First Amendment; health care; construction defect; and wrongful termination, employment discrimination and executive compensation.Before law school, Phil spent 12 years in the computer and consumer electronics fields, with business experience ranging from marketing and management positions with national Fortune 500 companies to his own entrepreneurial ventures.As an adjunct law professor, Phil has taught law school courses in trial practice. He has participated in seminars and workshops teaching legal research, deposition, advocacy, and trial techniques and has appeared on the faculty at local and national continuing legal education seminars.

The LASC's Temporary Judge Program has been highly effective thanks to the participation of dedicated Bar members. The contribution Temporary Judges make to the people of Los Angeles County in general and the LASC in particular cannot be underestimated.Temporary Judges serve at the discretion of the Presiding Judge and must be members of the California State Bar in good standing for 10 years. They must complete an application for each three year term and receive training outlined in Rule 2.812, California Rules of Court.

From 2000-2013, Phil directed the pro bono activities of Jones Day's Los Angeles Office.

The ABTL was founded in Los Angeles in 1972 to provide a collegial forum for the discussion of business litigation issues.
