I am in-house counsel and a people manager with carriage of a global portfolio of employment, labour, litigation and immigration matters for one of Canada’s largest single profession Pension Plans. In my role, I also provide subject matter expert support to our roster of portfolio companies across North America, South America, Europe and Asia Pacific. Leaning into my strong business acumen, good judgment, agility, and commitment, I deliver proactive services with a focus on risk management. I also leverage my role as a trusted business partner and advisor in working with colleagues to find creative and pragmatic solutions to help advance our corporate goal of growing the fund to $300 billion by 2030.My professional approach is influenced by my qualification as a Certified Information Privacy Professional and my prior in-house experiences, including working for a major international financial institution. In my prior in-house role, I was Senior Counsel on specialized team that advised all sectors of the bank on reputational, financial, and regulatory risks, primarily as they related to privacy, data, cybersecurity and fraud investigations, privileged issues, and litigation. Prior to this time, I spent several years in private practice, where I maintained a successful employment, privacy and commercial litigation practice with a prominent Toronto firm.I have experience conducting and advising on various types of investigations, climate reviews and policy and procedure reviews, including for the Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP and in the unionized and non-unionized context, including for universities, school boards, transit corporations, unions, and not-for-profit organizations. I also have extensive experience writing papers and presenting in the areas of employment law and privacy law. As well, I taught undergraduate and community courses on mediation techniques and practices and acted as a court appointed mediator while completing my LL.M., which focused on labour and employment law. I completed my H.B.A. in history with minors in women and gender studies and political science, and have a strong theoretical and practical knowledge of the laws, principles and theories that inform the area of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
