Smart Farms Coodinator
The Smart Farms project is a Stirlings to Coast Farmers initiative that introduces a wide range of technology, sensors and digital tools into Agriculture, with the ultimate aim to improve and advance farming operations towards decision agriculture. Three demonstration sites have been established within the Albany Port Zone, covering a range of enterprise types from feed lotting and stud operations, to mixed crop/livestock operations and 100% dedicated grains/oilseed productions. Satellite sites have been developed in conjunction with the three demonstration farms, to create a wider, connected region.Some of my role currently includes: - AgTech & IoT design, installation & on-farm implementation- WiFi & Radio [LPWAN] network design & management- Investigation & research into current IoT devices available that will positively contribute to on-farm decision making.- Design, installation & implementation of these technologies in real farming businesses, and road-testing current equipment.- Creation of training, print and electronic media for information dissemination to growers within the region.- Manage project funding, milestones and reporting requirements of relevant funders.

Grid Operator/Out loading:• Ensure truck is delivering the correct commodity (visually and on the ticket).• Liaison with Central Control Room (CCR) regarding commodity type and location and cell storage.• Outload into trucks in a safe manner, ensuring that they are not overloaded.• Check for contaminants (pickled grains, mouldy grain, foreign grain, fertiliser, rocks).• Undergo risk assessments and wear appropriate PPE where required.• Ensure the work area is kept clean to food standardsTripper Operation:• Check that grain will be going to the correct storage cell.• Liaison with Central Control Room (CCR) in regards to remaining cell heights.• Ensure that the work area is kept clean, including grain distributors.• Use/wear appropriate PPE for potential phosphine gas areas (Phosphine detectors & half-mask respirator)Cleaning:• Ensure that all shipping areas/floors are clean from dust/contaminants and meet Quarantine standards.• Perform isolation's (lock-outs) when working near conveyor belts and motors that could be started up.• Record cleaning in the cleaning logbook.
Soil Sampler & Liquid Fertiliser Production
Working under a casual basis over the Summer months (December- March), I undertook soil sampling and liquid fertiliser production within the Esperance Region.Soil Sampling:• Site-Specific soil coring at designated areas using Biomass data• Recording and analysing site information regarding soil types, gravel percentage, previous crop, and estimating organic matter levels. • Daily vehicle checks for maintenance purposes. Liquid Fertilizer Production:• Follow Guidelines regarding the safe handling of Dangerous Goods such as Ammonium Nitrate.• Keep the Liquids Plant Clean to minimise potential workplace injuries.• Produce Liquid Fertilizer using correct procedures to minimise injuries.• Load Liquid Fertilizer Trucks Efficiently to ensure they are not overweight.
Field Operator
Working on a casual basis for Precision Agronomics Australia, I performed Electro-Magnetic (EM) Induction & Gamma Radiometric data collection throughout the Western Australian agricultural regions. Often working away from home, high levels of professionalism were required, especially in creating new sales leads for work and explaining the potential benefits of implementing precision agriculture.
