Years ago, I started my career as a web developer, hopping between a few companies while trying to figure things out. Then, in 2005, life threw me a curveball—I landed a job at Disney. How I got that gig still feels like a bit of magic. But what really threw me was getting promoted to lead a team of developers—many with more experience than me—just a few months later.Why did that happen? It wasn’t because of my coding skills (though I wasn’t terrible). Looking back, I realize it was my ability to think critically, adapt to new challenges, and connect with people—my soft skills—that made the difference.Fast forward to today: I’m a principal software engineer at Disney and a proud dad. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of leading projects, building solutions from the front to the backend, and mentoring some truly talented engineers. Along the way, I’ve been affectionately called a “work dad” by a few. (If I’m honest, that title means just as much as any promotion.)What drives me? Leading change, asking the hard “why” questions, and helping others grow into the best versions of themselves. There’s no better reward than seeing someone you’ve mentored thrive.
