I joined Uniware before formation, when the operation was a small internal IT team in a large catering company developing cashless payment systems. We spun out as an independent startup on sale of the main organisation in 1994 and grew the business from there.

I joined INPS as a programmer when it was a very small company working with the founders to produce systems for General Practitioners. We were originally a development team of three programming in COBOL in the 1980's/90's, working with a GP and developed what would eventually become the market leading system used in over 2,500 GP practices in the UK.My core work was developing code to generate the General Practice Research Database, to date this has been used in over 3,000 clinical reviews and papers, and it has grown to become the world's largest computerised database of anonymised patient data from general practice.http://www.cprd.comIn later projects we progressed to using SQL and Visual Foxpro development environments for GP Fund Holding systems..

This role involved extensive patient contact and the use of scientific procedures and subsequent analysis to assist in disease diagnosis and treatment, including early work on AIDS diagnosis. My role involved emergency on call work, cross matching blood for emergencies etc. At St Stephens Hospital Chelsea I was one of the team dealing with the IRA Hyde Park Bombing casualties in 1982. At Queen Mary's Hospital Sidcup I gained my Institute Fellowship. This involved a research project studying cell surface structures in Leukaemic patients. This hospital covered the Brands Hatch circuit so saw lots of racing!As a Senior MLSO at Broomfield Hospital, Chelsford. one of my tasks was the implementation of a computerised laboratory information management system. I learned to program in COBOL whilst leading this project which lead me into seeking a position as a medical systems programmer.
