Master ThesisCbs Jan 2011 - Mar 2012Large Danish media companies are in trouble. Customers are shifting to online services faster than the Media companies. This results in declining turnover, profits and overall the fatal crisis seems closer than ever for newspapers and many other media companies that have not adapted to the new world. In order to reinvent media businesses in a way so resources are exploited and market opportunities found, I make a new method for spotting and evaluating opportunities. The system is based on resource-analysis and market analysis, together this builds the foundation for a business development scorecard. In order to describe the use of the method and to get a practical perspective on the matter, a large Danish newspaper (Berlingske) has been included as case example. The single case study approach is commonly used in strategic studies and provides insight in the challenges that troubled companies have to consider. The objective for this thesis is to provide a strong analytic foundation for developing projects that can incubate a strategic turn-around creating long term advantages and high return for large troubled companies.
