I have more than 40 years of experience practicing law, with a focus on maritime, labor and corporate law. For many years I was one of the leading United States spokespersons for the maritime industry, and have extensive experience in commercial and industry arbitration, including labor arbitration proceedings arising under Section 301 of the Labor Management Relations Act.I graduated from Fordham University with a B.S. in American Civilization, and earned my J.D. With Distinction at Cornell Law School, graduating third in my class. Following active-duty in the U.S. Army as a commissioned officer, I began my legal career as an associate at Donovan, Leisure, Newton & Irvine, the Wall Street firm founded by General William ("Wild Bill") Donovan of the Fighting 69th and OSS fame. I worked there under the tutelage of George S. Leisure, one of Donovan Leisure's other founding partners. I then became a partner in Hays, Landsman and Head, where I practiced labor and maritime law. Later, I became a partner in the firm of Dechert, Price and Rhoads, where I was in charge of the firm's New York office. I served as managing partner at Hays, Landsman and as a member of the management committee at Dechert, Price. While an associate at Donovan, Leisure I was elected as an officer of one of the firm's clients, the Federation of American Controlled Shipping ("FACS"), a maritime trade association made up of American companies with economic interests in tankers, bulk carriers, container vessels, passenger cruise vessels and other specialty vessels registered in so-called open registry countries and competing in the international trades. I was later elected as Chairman, an office to which I was reelected annually until I retired from FACS 25 years later.
