As a process manager in this department, I carry out analyses in various areas, am responsible for Swiss activities in a multinational cooperation programme and provide second opinions on content and products.

Our Department is responsible for the implementation of political directives and military strategic missions. It also ensures the development, planning, resource allocation and control of the armed forces.My department, Management Development Defence / Military Doctrine (MD D/D), develops the military strategic foundations as part of the main leadership process. We develop the strategy and evaluate its effectiveness. We draw up guidelines for integral planning and are also responsible for the orientation of future military capabilities.As a project manager in this department, I conduct analyses in various areas, plan and implement development programmes and report the results, including recommendations, to the Chief of the Armed Forces Staff or sometimes to the Chief of the Armed Forces. My analytical skills are as much in demand as my leadership skills, as the project teams I have to lead are very diverse and bring together different, often conflicting objectives.

Graduate of the Advanced Command and Staff Course (ACSC) at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom that prepares military officers for senior positions by broadening professional knowledge on a wide spectrum of military, political and international issues.ACSC supports military and civil participants from over 50 nations to develop the intellectual edge required to achieve success on operations and leadership in government.Over the course of a year, ACSC graduates are supported to think critically, operate innovatively, and question wisely to make sound decisions that evaluate moral, ethical and legal considerations within a military context and in a demanding environment.ACSC is delivered in partnership with King’s College London’s Defence Studies Department. Course members have the opportunity to select from a number of postgraduate programmes, of which I chose the MA in Defence Studies (MADS) that I successfully graduated from.

Exchange officer in the United States Army Maneuver Center of Excellence, representing Switzerland and the Swiss Army in the exchange of military experience and knowledge with US Army officers.Participant of the Maneuver Captains Career Course in Fort Benning, Georgia, trained to plan military operations at company and battalion level together with experienced US Army officers.The training was enhanced with a working visit to a US infantry brigade during their pre-deployment phase in Fort Carson, Colorado.

Overall responsibility to achieve mission readiness by organizing, leading and guiding with assigned personnel and staff.Managing the company resources and establishing and sustaining a high degree of discipline and loyalty.Commanding officer during the last 6 months assignment as permanent rapid response force.Maintaining high readiness of personnel and equipment, attaining the necessary special training for unforeseen missions in coordination with external partners.Overall responsibility of 9 direct subordinates for 330 people including staff, plus equipment and vehicles with a value of approximately 100 mio CHF.

Recruiting future officers and non-commissioned officers.Teaching infantry tactics and troop leading procedures to reserve officers.Responsible with 5 direct subordinates for 200 people over a period of 21 weeks twice a year. Overall responsibility for the compliance with the regulations and to keep the budget.
