Aherns departments stores were purchased by David Jones in August 2000. Started at Aherns Pty Ltd as a Graduate Trainee in the Giftwear and Christmas department. After the internship in these departments, which included buying trips to Indonesia, Philippines , HongKong and Thailand , I moved into the position of Childrenswear buyer followed by Accessories buyer and finally Senior Ladies Fashion Buyer.Whilst in this role I was also responsible for the training of the graduate buyers in the womenswear department. I managed multiple departments across the 5 stores, this included managing and mentoring staff in store and in the buying office to achieve best merchandising and profitable sales results. At the sale of Aherns to David Jones department store I was offered the position of Category Manager for Womenswear. As this offer meant a move to NSW and I was at that time on maternity leave with an 8 week old baby ,I made the decision to stay in Perth.
