As a host, guiding our guests through three different tours within our collection; introducing them to the animals, explaining and discussing aspects of natural history, conservation, animal husbandry, enrichment and training with our guests, answering questions posed, delivering talks on a variety of different species, responding to animal behaviour and altering presentation to meet the needs of our guests. Ensuring our guests’ safety on these tours in the zoo after hours, administering First Aid when required. Providing refreshments and taking and finalizing meal orders. Liaising with our catering, security, transport and customer experience teams. As a warden, providing assistance to the host team and driving the back-up vehicle. Responsible for the house keeping of the lodges during the guests’ stay. Transporting drinks orders back to lodges and ferrying any guests not wishing to take part in the Torch Light Tour. On call throughout the experience and overnight to provide transport, assistance and First Aid.

Responsible for the running and up-keep of the Food Hall coffee shop. Conducting daily machine cleans, maintaining stock levels in coffee and hot chocolate machines, taking and processing drinks and food orders. Constructing hot sandwiches to order. Clearing tables, disposing of rubbish, washing crockery and cutlery. Taking payment and processing card and cash transactions, incorporating loyalty cards. Constructing gift hampers on request. Using till technology and conducting cash ups at the start and end of day. Liaising with Ice Rink crew to facilitate the sale of ice skating tickets; ensuring that there are places available and the availability of skate aids.

Edinburgh Zoo, Edinburgh

Trainee Keeper with the Carnivore Team.- Seasonal position with the Carnivore Team, training up and providing everyday husbandry on the ‘Dogs Run’; Skunks, North American Porcupines, Meerkats, Binturongs and African Painted Hunting Dogs. - Providing daily food and water requirements for a variety of species and carrying out daily enclosure checks and cleaning. Administering daily medication doses. - Routinely preparing section diets, preparing and weighing out meat, fruit and supplements for feeding out. Sourcing and providing browse. - Observing natural behaviours, recognising and reporting abnormal behaviours. Assisting on catch ups for veterinary examinations. Preparing and presenting behavioural enrichment.- Interacting with visiting members of the public, answering questions and discussing the animals in our collection.

- Intern assisting with the breeding period at a falconry breeding centre, assisting and observing with a team of aviculturists under Dr Nick Fox. - Observing, learning and assisting in the run up to and over the course of the breeding season. - Learning correct food preparation procedures, pen maintenance, feeding, handling, transportation and standing in on veterinary examinations. - Observing copulations and inseminations of imprinted birds, egg pullings from natural pairs and the incubation process. - Assisting in the brooder room, feeding and weighing young chicks, processing DNA samples. - Transporting falcons on the fist and in sky-kennels, fitting hoods and casting jackets. - Assisting with the upkeep of site maintenance and some data collection, such as pedigree measures. - Returned for second season after returning from travels abroad.
