About Philippa Connolly Phd

I’m a licensed clinical psychologist, Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Director of the Family Treatment and Training Program and Assistant Director of Program Evaluation and Research for the Center for Child Trauma and Resilience. I currently serve as co-chair of the Juvenile Justice Consortium and as a steering committee member for the National Child Traumatic Stress Network.Program Development/Research:I design, develop and evaluate innovative trauma-informed, trauma-focused programs for underserved urban communities, particularly those who are justice-impacted, with a view to informing policy change and increasing accessibility of effective community-based trauma-informed treatments. I am co-Principal Investigator on several grants including those from SAMHSA, the NCTSN, and the Manhattan DA’s Criminal Justice Investment Initiative.Clinical Work:I maintain a private practice with Mount Sinai Faculty Practice Associates where I provide individual psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults. I have expertise with a range of mental health difficulties and I specialize in the treatment of traumatic stress, particularly complex trauma. I utilize a range of approaches including relational psychodynamic, CBT, DBT, IFS, ARC, Interpersonal Neurobiological, and mindfulness-based techniques. I’m passionate about working collaboratively to find what works best for each individual. I conduct psychological and neuropsychological assessments for children, adolescents and adults relating to cognitive, neuro-developmental, emotional and personality functioning.Forensic Work:I conduct forensic evaluations and provide consultation and testimony in criminal and juvenile/family matters for adolescents and adults. This includes the following comprehensive psychological & neuropsychological assessments:Diagnostic (cognitive, intellectual ability, personality), sentencing mitigation, trauma/PTSD, competency, risk (suicide, violence, recidivism), treatment recommendations, symptom validity/malingering, custody/parental capacity, child abuse/neglect matters, immigration, psychological damages, fitness for duty, special education, psycho-educational.Teaching/Supervision:As a supervising psychologist I teach and supervise psychiatry residents and trainee psychologists in family and couples therapy, child trauma treatment, and long-term child and adult therapy. In addition, I am a guest lecturer for psychiatry residents in topics relating to the neurobiology of trauma, complex trauma and child therapy.
