A Cloud Engineer Intern and member of the Helion Lifecycle Management team, in the Helion OpenStack division. OpenStack is an open-source IaaS, providing cloud computing services. In my role, I was focused on building a tool to visualise the commit testing process for the first time. The testing process was broken down into stages and timed. Each stage was displayed on a series of graphs. The focus was on the duration, but the graphs enabled you to view the properties of each commit using Bokeh tooltips. The tool enabled the tracking of trends, for example the number of commits, the time taken for each commit, the proportion of successful commits, and the performance of teams. For example, a change was made to reduce the duration of the testing process and the graphs could quantify and show the decrease in the average duration of the testing process. The graphs also highlighted the stages that would benefit the most from an increase in efficiency. I built upon the existing Shell script variables used to time the stages and fixed a bug which prevented the data from one stage being written to the SQL database. I wrote a Python script which retrieved the data pertaining to each commit from the database. Using Pandas, a data analysis library, I sorted and filtered the results. The graphs were created using Bokeh, a data visualisation library, and a Jinja2 template. The webpages were stylised using the Bootstrap framework.

Trinity College Dublin

I was the Webmaster for Trinity College Dublin’s Trampolining Club. In this role, I restored access to the club’s old website, solving administration issues that had made the website inaccessible to us for the past two years, and redesigned it. I handled the social media activities of the club, and designed promotional and informational resources. There has since been two other Webmasters, and the design has been changed. The club’s website was outdated when I entered the position. I regained access and redesigned the website using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and the Bootstrap framework. A MySQL database of competition scores was created with the data retrieved using PHP and the results displayed on a webpage. Using Google Fusion Tables, I embedded a network graph which showed the different pairings of those who had competed at synchro. Synchro is a competition where two gymnasts perform the same routine at the same time. The pairings were stored in Google Sheets and entered using Google Forms. That year we hosted the Intervarsity competition. I created spreadsheets for the event, the formulas increasing the speed and efficiency of score keeping and totaling. I also designed the information packet for the event. The club uses Gmail, which does not explicitly have templates. In their place, I created sudo-templates for the club’s weekly and official emails using Canned Responses.
