The Foreign Exchange Division leads the Bank's FX market operations and serves our customers including the Government and peer central banks. The division manages the Bank's foreign currency balance sheet and the UK's foreign currency reserves. The division works in conjunction with market participants and other central banks to overcome market failures, and improve market function and practice.

I lead a team of seven technical experts who monitor the more complex risks arising from the trading operations of 15 largest banks operating in the UK. We review trading business models for sustainability, scan for market wide risks, and act as a SWAT team when substantial risks materialise. I successfully nominated Shelter as one of the Bank of England's two Charities of the Year.

Shelter's purpose is to defend the right the a safe home. As a trustee of Shelter, I was as a temporary custodian of that purpose. My role was to ensure we delivered on our strategy to fight housing injustice and secure the rights to a safe home for everyone. As a trustee I contributed my finance and risk management expertise. As chair of the finance and resources committee, I worked closely with the executive to ensure Shelter's resources were put to best use and that our plans are sustainable. As Vice Chair of the board, I aimed to spark the right discussions, and facilitate the relationship between board and executive.

I worked directly with Shelter clients supporting them on administrative tasks related to housing or benefits. I also applied for charitable grants on the behalf of clients, and sought debt reductions from utility companies.

I was responsible for identifying and limiting the Bank’s risk arising from its trading business worldwide. My role included communicating the Bank’s trading risk to the CEO’s management team and the Bank’s board of directors, chairing senior risk governance committees, and managing the relationship with the Bank’s lead regulator. I led a diverse team of up to 200 people across 17 countries, including seeing through two major restructures of the team.

I was responsible for the oversight of the 200-person trading floor in London, at a time when the whole industry was marred by conduct scandals which gathered much press coverage. I oversaw the development of the European client franchise, and led SCB's participation in cross-industry initiatives.

I took over the FX Option trading business in the wake of large losses during the 2008 financial crisis. I turned the business around and reshaped the strategy to be client focused and delivered stable revenues.
