Philippe Lucas has spent his adult life increasing safe, legal access to cannabis and psychedelics.Philippe has a long history of community-based research and advocacy and his work aims to overcome obstacles to access for patients in need of cannabis or psychedelic-assisted treatments for the treatment of chronic pain, mental health and addiction. He is the coordinator and co-PI of the Global Psychedelic Survey, the largest assessment of international adult psychedelic consumers to date, and was formerly President of SABI Mind, a clinic group focused on providing psychedelic-assisted therapies for patients impacted by chronic pain and mental health; Vice President, Global Patient Research & Access at Tilray, the world's largest cannabis company; and a founding Board member of the Cannabis Council of Canada.Philippe first became involved with medical cannabis as a patient, and founded the Vancouver Island Compassion Society in 1999 to serve the needs of patients who might benefit from the medical use of cannabis. He was a founding Board member and Board Chair of MAPS Canada and co-founder of the Victoria Association Psychedelic Studies (VAPS). He is extremely community involved, and served as a Victoria City Councillor and Regional Director from 2008-2011. Philippe has received a number of accolades and awards for his work, including the Americans for Safe Access Researcher of the Year Award 2021, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his work and research on medical cannabis, the University of Victoria Blue and Gold Award for academic excellence and community service, and the Vancouver Island Civil Liberties Association Leadership Award.
