About Philippe Beer-Gabel
I am born and raised in Paris, France.I do music and teach Yin Yoga, my two passions.I got my certification as a yoga teacher in Hatha and Ashtanga in 2014 in India in Rishikesh and then went to Canada to do a training in Yin Yoga with Bernie Clark.I also studied different healing modalities such as Body Talk System and Reiki. MUSICI didn’t study music but I have been composing and performing for the last ten years in several bands I launched. My background is in rock music that said my direction, style and vision was significantly influenced in 2007 after discovering an ancient instrument called the Kantele, an electric harp made of thirty-eight strings. Acoustically it sounds ethereal and magical. When amplified it sounds as though an orchestra resonates through each string. The Kantele’s unique sound gives a timeless and spiritual color to the Avant garde/pop music I am performing. The instrument chose me. I have attended some Kantele camp getting lessons from world-renowned Kantele players including Eva Alkula, Vilma Timonen and Anna Karin Kohonen. Since 2011, I have the pleasure to be endorsed by Koistinen Kantele, the primary developer of the instrument.I released three albums and three EP’s. I have toured the U.S and Europe several times. Independent and institutional recording studios such as Radio France (Paris), Memphis University Recording Studio (Memphis) and The Church (Tulsa, Oklahoma) have sponsored me to record at their facilities. I was awarded a grant to train with French music school Manufacture Chanson. I started playing solo at the end of 2013. My music focus now on integrating pictures and videos on stage into a performance on the Kantele, vocals, tibetan singing bowls and some mallets instruments. It is an intimate work which aims to merge intimacy and universal matters.
