During my PhD and postdoctoral research position, I worked on various projects: development of distance measurements in paramagnetic proteins, structure characterization of Prion PrP, associated with diseases known as Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSE), dynamics measurement in nucleosomes. While being an analytical Ph.D. candidate, I have developed skills in various analytical techniques in both chemistry and biochemistry.Scientific skills• Development and optimization of analytical methods in NMR.• Protein/peptide purifications (FPLC Akta, Pharmacia, size exclusion, affinity, ion exchange, HPLC) and characterization (UV-Vis, MS, SDS-PAGE).• 2D, 3D, pseudo-4D solution and solid state NMR techniques applied to peptides, proteins or DNA-protein complexes.• Protein expression in various media (LB media, 15N or 13C,15N or 2H,13C,15N isotopic enriched media).• Microscopy techniques applied to amyloid fibril formation (AFM, TEM).Management skills• Organizing & managing various research group members on different projects• Mentoring new team members• Working in teams to solve problems quickly and efficiently

Collaborating and conducting independent research in support of company’s R&D projects• Supporting technical service requests, pilot and commercial plant operations, intellectual property protection.• Lead research projects in developing and validating NMR methodologies in support of structural and compositional analysis of complex macromolecular systems and provide structure-property relationships.• Maintain safe working environment in the lab and comply with all environmental, health and safety requirements. -
StaffThe Ohio State University Mar 2016 - Nov 2016Columbus, Ohio, Us•Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry / Campus Chemical Instrument CenterSupport the operation and maintenance of solution and solid-state NMR in both the Department of Chemistry and Campus Chemical Instrumentation Center as assigned by the Director of Research Support Services (High-field Solid-state NMR instrument – 600 DNP, 800 WB, 800 NB; Low-field solid-state NMR – 300 WB; Solution-state NMR – 250 MHz, 400 MHz x2, 600 MHz)• Maintain detailed records of the performance of all instruments including pulse calibrations, linewidths, and signal-to-noise.• Track the cryogen levels of all instruments, oversee and/or perform cryogen fills as needed working with the NMR manager and graduate student assistants.• Acquire NMR spectra of samples for a variety of customers primarily in the area of solid-state NMR (polymer, rubber…).• Training users; basic and advanced NMR experiments for both solution and solid-state NMR users.• Support in the administrative aspects including scheduling and purchasing cryogens, tabulating monthly billing.• Other miscellaneous assignments as directed by the NMR manager. -
Post Doctoral Researcher In ChemistryThe Ohio State University Mar 2010 - Feb 2016Columbus, Ohio, Us• Instructed at Case Western Reserve University - Medical School (Cleveland, OH) to express prion proteins from three different mammalian species in E. coli. Designed NMR techniques developed during my PhD to gather structural information about prion fibrils. The preliminary results of this collaboration led to an NIH grant (~$1.5M). • Engineered new solid-state NMR measurement techniques, such as paramagnetic relaxation enhancement effects, using the model protein GB1. This approach is being used for other research project in our group and by peers worldwide. This work was initiated during my PhD and the NSF funding has been renewed. • Wrote pulse sequences to study nucleosome dynamics (solution-state NMR pulse sequences adapted to the complex of large protein-DNA complexes, manuscript in preparation). This work was funded by a University grant in collaboration with Prof. Michael Poirier from the Department of Biophysics at The Ohio State University.• Organized, mentored and trained new members in the group (undergraduate and graduate students) in aspects of their assigned projects.• Reviewed purchases for the laboratory and corresponded with vendors. • Generated SOPs and coordinated safety measures in compliance with OSU’s Environmental Health & Safety recommendations. -
Graduate Research Assistant/Doctorate In ChemistryThe Ohio State University Sep 2005 - Mar 2010Columbus, Ohio, UsDissertation title: High-Resolution Structural Studies of Paramagnetic Proteins by Multidimensional Solid-State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. Advisor: Professor Christopher P. Jaroniec• Developed long-range distance measurements using a paramagnetic tag attached to mutant proteins and operated a FastMAS probe with low power decoupling allowing fast acquisition spectra. Preliminary results led to an NSF grant.• Collected 2D and 3D solid-state NMR spectra of human, mouse and hamster prion proteins in amyloid fibril form. (NIH grant and in collaboration with Prof. Surewicz, Case Western Reserve University - Medical School, Cleveland, OH).• Systematized 2D, 3D, pseudo-4D solution and solid-state NMR experiments applied to peptides, proteins and DNA-protein complexes to gather amino acid assignments or structural information.• Performed protein expression in various media (LB medium, 15N or 13C,15N or 2H,13C,15N isotopic enriched media).• Achieved protein/peptide purifications (ÄKTA FPLC systems and UNICORN software, size exclusion, affinity, ion exchange, HPLC) and characterization (UV-Vis, MS, SDS-PAGE).• Examined amyloid fibril formation by microscopy (AFM, TEM).• Supervised new undergraduate and graduate students in the group. • Taught various analytical chemistry classes for undergraduate and graduate students. -
Visiting ScholarThe Ohio State University Mar 2004 - Sep 2004Columbus, Ohio, Us• Extracted biopolymers from plants and examined their compositions by Pyrolysis GC/MS, solid-state NMR and GC/MS.• Investigated sorption of pollutants onto/into biopolymers by HPLC and solution-state NMR.• Encouraged 8th and 9th graders from Columbus Public Schools to consider a profession in environmental chemistry through a unique outreach program at OSU funded by NSF. -
