Operating voyages and tc relets while being in close contact with the chartering department.Sizes: Handysize, Supramax, UltramaxCargoes: Mostly bulk cargoes like fertilizer, cement, clinker, iron ore, coal, but also break bulk like logs (on deck), steel billets (both voyage) and cold rolled coils (tc out)Areas: I've been exposed to almost all standard trading areas around the globe by now - with different ship sizes, cargoes and type of fixtures (tc in, voyage charter, tc out and cargo relets).Work scope:===========- Planning the voyage in an safe, but economic way.- Handling the correspondence internally to concerned departments and externally to all parties involved into the voyage (clients, ship owners, masters, agents, surveyors, etc)- Ensuring the vessel is carrying the cargo safely and efficient from A to B to the clients satisfaction- Making decisions to optimize the voyage / Ownership - taking responsibility- working closely with chartering, not only for present voyage, but also create the preconditions that chartering can trade the ship with most flexibility for the onward employment - Train new operators- Handling claims- Finalizing voyages- Voyage Instructions- Agency appointments- bunker planning- appointing survey companies- cargo intake / stowage plan calculations together with the master- freight invoices- taking decisions about vessel's speed/consumption- instructing/consulting in-house departments reg hire payments and legal matters- supervising hire payments and laytime calculations

Areas:===========By now I've been exposed to all standard trading areas around the globe - with different ship sizes, cargoes, loading and discharging. In each area you encounter different challenges due to the stage of development of the country, local requirements, cultural differences or other reasons. It makes a huge difference whether the ship is loading at Australia or Africa. A more developed country doesn't mean automatically less challenges however. Prior starting the apprenticeship had the chance to sail on board of MV Maria Oldendorff (handysize bulk carrier) for 2,5 months. Got introduced to the daily routine/maintenance jobs of the engineer in the engine room, able seaman on deck and officers on the bridge.
