Global Trade Systems is single proprietor consultancy operating within a network of independent consultants that includes experience in international customs practices, international logistics, supply chain management, regulatory compliance and law enforcement, including anti terrorism. My team and I advise small and medium sized enterprises on achieving regulatory compliance with the import and export regulations of customs administrations, including the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism. We are now addressing a key emerging threat to supply chain security: assessing the risks of dealing with firms in nations that have ostensibly market based economies but that are governed by a single party, nondemocratic government. To what extent are the decisions made by these firms influenced by party and governmental influence and skewed away from purely market-based decision making? How can these supply chain risks be identified and the risks mitigated?
