Manage financial operations for 12 health plans with an overall staff of 15 people in 3 states, encompassing over $55 million in revenue annually. Lead the strategic direction and oversight for all financial operational activities, including Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Revenue Cycle Management, budgeting, and the development of all short- and long-term financial goals. Oversee implementation of key strategic projects including creating timelines, tracking milestones, developing program materials and coordinating training. Drive business processes to improve efficiencies at the health plan level and meet strategic organizational goals. • Reduced region losses by 70% over a 3 year period • Created a centralized finance model and served as the project manager to roll out the new model for 7 health plans in Texas. The CFO formally adopted the centralized model across 47 health plans in 13 states. • Collaborated with the CFO to acquire a new service provider in Texas. Managed on the ground due diligence process to determine the ROI. Through the investment, added an additional $2 million to the overall revenue base. • Provide financial recommendations to the Regional Vice Presidents, Executive Directors and corporate Sr. Leadership team. • Proactively review services in southwest region to analyze ROI for each service area. Restructured underachieving departments and streamlined existing service models resulting in eliminating losses of 15% for specific service areas.

Responsible for oversight of all budgeting, forecasting, monthly variance reporting and financial analysis activities for Aetna Health Plans, encompassing over $1.3 billion in revenue annually. Managed the FP&A department’s staff of finance and accounting professionals. Prepared and analyzed business development and project proposals to support strategic growth goals. Provided an assessment of existing and proposed financial models while researching industry benchmark comparison and performing a productivity analyses.• Oversaw the restructuring of the FP&A and Accounting departments to achieve organizational efficiencies and improve support provided to the Aetna Health Plans and related corporate entities, resulting in savings of over $300,000 per year.• Assisted in the design and implementation of significant improvements to the forecasting and budgeting process, including an integrated, real-time P&L platform, resulting in the delivery of more accurate and timely financial information to the functional leaders. This reduced financials review time by 15 days and allowed for quicker decision-making by senior leadership.• Coordinated the use of workload drivers using work volumes and employee efficiencies to manage staffing needs and reduce overall compensation expenses. Over a 2.5 year period, reduced overall compensation expenses by $1.2M.

Responsible for overseeing the financial management of five (formerly nine) health plans within the Southwest Region, encompassing over $30 million in revenue annually. Ensured that agencies were utilizing Medicaid funds in accordance with state and federal guidelines, and developed short- and long-term financial plans of correction as needed. Complete ongoing internal audits of finance functions in health plans, and lead the annual budgeting process, including all long-range financial planning.• Achieved reductions of 40% in accounts receivable balances for the Southwest Region over two years.• Developed significant post-merger procurement processes and financial systems improvements following 2003 merger resulting in over $300,000 in annual cost savings.• Improved overall financial performance of the Southwest Region from annual losses of $400,000 to a surplus of $90,000.• Oversaw allocation of state and federal funds and utilized state-specific cost reporting models to verify appropriate fund management; maintained 100% fund allocation compliance.

Managed $5.5 million in revenue annually and oversaw more than 140 clinical, operational and direct care staff. Responsible for managing all business and service delivery functions of the health plan in accordance with Arizona regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and financial guidelines. • Successfully executed a financial plan that grew a $2.5 million agency to $5.5 million.• Achieved a 3-year Accreditation with Distinction from The Council on Quality upon the health plan’s initial application through the development and mentoring of a strong leadership team.• Restructured how services were managed, resulting in a financial surplus of over $250,000 in each fiscal year.• Led the transition to PeopleSoft Financial Software within the Phoenix agency, and trained counterparts within the Southwest Region.
