In 2017 I retired from the US Air Force as a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer. I spent my entire career working in the Administrative field. During this time, I worked at nearly every level of the Air Force from the lowest smallest squadron all of the way up the Pentagon. During this time, I was lucky to be selected to work with and around some of the US military's most senior leaders. As a young Non-Commissioned Officer at the Pentagon I was quickly exposed to the requirements of working with our most senior leaders. I found myself quickly and easily acquiring the skills and abilities to navigate the professional demands of working in such an environment. I found myself almost at ease in working in such an environment and would continue to grow and develop the skills needed to continue to work in such environments over the course of several more assignments and deployments. While still active duty and with my retirement date approaching, I tried to decide what I would like to do with my future. Having always enjoyed working with my hands I decided to try my hand as a mechanic and enrolled at the Davis Applied Technology School in their Diesel Technology course. As soon as I was retired, I was hired on as a trailer mechanic at Estes Express for my first post military job. I quickly gained a reputation as guy who could be counted on to get the job done right. I learned A LOT in the time I was at that company but being the newest employee, I was stuck on the second shift. This meant that the majority of the time I ended up only seeing my wife and children on the weekends. Add in an hour commute and to say I was not entirely happy would be an understatement.
