After leaving the Birmingham School of Music in 1977 I spent around 18 years being a freelance opera singer singing principle roles for Glyndebourne, English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Opera North, Scottish Opera, and many touring companies both in the UK and abroad. The roles that I performed were centred on having strong acting abilities, roles like Leporello, Dr.Dulcamara, Don Pasquale, Rigoletto, Dr. Bartolo, the Father in Hansel and Gretal, Sharpless, Don Alphonso, and many more.I have also performed in and devised workshops for education having been a member of the Baylis programme for ENO, and for what is now English Touring Opera.Recital and oratorio work has always featured in my professional life .Teaching has always been a passion of mine, and I have been Head of Vocal Studies at Bedales School.The theatre and the operatic stage is forever in my blood, and love to direct operas when I get a chance to.I will be singing the title role and directing Verdi's Falstaff for Black Cat Opera later this year.
