Within this role I worked continental shifts as a shift engineer in a busy maintenance team of fast growing manufacturing business, responding to and prioritising factory plant breakdowns, control and execution of PPM/TPM and involvement in lean, continual improvement and safety/update projects. My daily task was the maintenance of the factory machinery including ovens, shredders, granulators, mills and industry specific machines and systems such as water treatment, hydro-entanglement, dye impregnation and mixing and core fabric coating machinery. In addition to this, tasks included fabrication of structural repairs and the maintenance, repair and replacement of all production equipment including motors, pumps, gearboxes and belt drives and hydraulic and pneumatic systems. The tasks around the factory often included working at height and to this end I received IPAF training and am an operator of boom and scissor type MEWPs and also locally trained in working in confined spaces. I was a business Safety leader (IOSH Managing Safety) and was required to carry out inductions and health and safety briefings, to scrutinise method statements, produce risk assessments and permits to work (general, working at height, confined spaces and hot work) to visiting contractors and staff. I continually put myself forward for involvement in business projects and while with the business was a member of the factory Kaizen team, attending daily meetings and involved in the correction or implementation of corrective actions and new processes while working with the factory project teams in implementing ongoing projects with regard to improving processes on the factory fiberisation plant and dye mixing/chemical preparation plants and safety projects throughout the factory.
