Marine Electrician, Electrical Test Engineer, Marine Electrical Designer
Tacoma Boatbuilding Co. Inc, John J. Mcmullen & Assoc, Washington State Ferries Vessel Design Sep 1978 - Dec 1999
As a marine electrician my job was to install electrical systems onboard new construction vessels. I also worked for a time in yard maintenance, repairing and maintaining shipyard electrical equipment and also in ship repair, on occasional military and commercial vessel repair as contracted by TBC. As an Electrical Test Engineer at TBC my job was to produce test memos for the customer using CFR's and circular of requirements directing installation and operation of the systems involved. After the test memos were accepted by the customer and USCG/USN, my job was to test the subject system, using that test memo, to the satisfaction of the owner and regulating authority. When the ships systems were ready for sea trials I manned the engineering central control and performed tests underway on equipment within my purview. Between projects I worked in TBC vessel engineering, producing system drawings for upcoming vessel construction using Prime Medusa computer drafting. At John J. McMullen and Associates, my job was pretty much the same as at TBC, except that I was responsible for completion of designs and production/execution of test memos to the satisfaction of the U.S. Navy on the USNS HAYES, T-AG 195. at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Upon completion of that project I moved on to the Washington State Ferries where I produced designs and drawings for the new MK II ferries, and after that, for the entire fleet of WSF ferries. My work after the MK II's was on existing vessels mostly, diagnosing/trouble shooting electrical system problems and producing repair methods and drawings to execute those repairs.
