Phillip grew up at Black Bridge Nurseries, a business over 50 years old that has been owned by his family for the full duration. He’s been employed at Black Bridge Nurseries for 22 years now, starting ‘on the tools’ before setting up the Puhinui nursery about 15 years ago.At the start of his career he did some landscaping work, and moved into sales work too. Over his time at the company, he has served as Nursery Manager, Sales Manager and now as General Manager.Philip likes the diversity that working in the industry provides, it is subject to a lot of variety, from dealing with extreme weather, changing fashion or very different environments. It helps make every day different and delivers constant new challenges.Over the years he is proud to have taken the chance to upskill, learning marketing, management and leadership, in addition, to plant husbandry and maintenance out in the nursery.He also very much enjoys down to earth atmosphere and great people he gets to work with as part of the Black Bridge Nurseries team, there is a tremendous amount of experience amongst the staff and Philip recognises their skills and knowledge is a crucial feature that enables the business to succeed.Outside of work, Philip enjoys time with his family and children, his interests extend from music to pretty well anything outdoors, as well as good food!
