Advanced Manufacturing Robotics Accelerator Centre of Excellence (AMRACE) has been set up with the purpose of assisting companies in transforming their business ready for IR4.0. A Centre of Excellence showcasing a fully automated, robotic, production line is being established in Malaysia. Head of Software Engineering Department. Responsible for setting up and maintaining a Software Engineering business. Establishing processes and procedures based on ISO9001:2008 and industry standard software engineering practice. Head of Quality. Responsibilities include: Maintenance and supervision of Quality Management to AS9100 standards. Co-ordination of all quality activities with external and internal organisations. Implementation and supervision of internal audit plans and schedules. Responsible for the transition to revision D of the AS9100 standard. Background: ATSB has been commissioned to design, develop, manufacturer, launch and operate the National Communications Satellite Program for the Government of Malaysia.Quality Assurance Manager for ATSB. Responsibilities include: Maintenance of ISO documentation. Co-ordination of all ISO activities with external organisations. Implementation and supervision of internal audit plans and schedules. ISO 9001:2008 rollout across all departments. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer.Head of Department, Management Information Systems. Responsibilities include: To direct, plan and manage the company’s IT resources & Infrastructure. To evaluate user needs and system functionality ensuring that the ICT facilities meet the needs. To plan & implement a system of collecting, processing and disseminating data for management analysis of business trends and applications. To direct and monitor the maintenance of Company ICT resources, including troubleshooting and managing any crisis situations. To manage and control the IT budget & purchasing. Head of department, Embedded Systems group. Responsibilities include: The setting up and operation of the Mission Control Centre to support all of ATSB’s satellite and non-satellite operations. Managing the development programme and designing the Kernel for the next generation On-Board Computer to be used in Malaysia’s next generation satellites. Consultation on all aspects of Ground Segment Operations, including co-ordination of the frequency filing application with the International Telecommunications Union Malaysian representative organisation. Supporting the operations and roll-out of satellite services. Full budget and reporting responsibility for the Embedded Systems group consisting of nine software and hardware engineers supplying software applications development and support to the company and external customers. Reporting directly to the company’s Senior Vice President.

Background: Galileo will be Europe’s own global satellite navigation system, consisting of 30 satellites in MEO (Medium-height Earth Orbit).Responsibilities include: full responsibility for all Product Assurance activities on all components of the company’s projects for the Galileo program including; assisting in the definition of the procedures and standards to be used, reporting to the company Quality Manager about the implementation of plans and adherence to standards, QA approval of certain documents, ensuring project libraries are correctly set up and used, advising project staff on how to apply the standards, assisting with the definition of, and monitoring the conduct of, all verification and validation activities, monitoring subcontractor QA activities, attendance at project reviews, collecting and reporting of quality metrics, requirements management and tracing using the DOORS tool and support of audits (both internal and by the Prime Contractor or third parties).

Background: UK Military Communications Satellite Control System (ESOF). This is high availability (> 99.999%) and high reliability system that controlled the fleet of satellites that provide communication facilities for all of the UK’s armed forces. Responsibilities include; account management (responsible for profit & loss of the contract), budgets, timesheets (internal authorisation of hours and expenses), invoicing of work, management of team consisting of consultants and principal programmers, primary contact for the client at all levels from executive to technical, ensuring customer satisfaction of delivery and maintenance of the system, technical authority for the control system, supplying responses to proposals for estimates of work for enhancements to the system, incorporation of the company automation tool, UNiT, into the ESOF system.Additionally I have supported other areas of the company with bid proposals, including bids for the European Space Agency, technical bid support and presentations. I have also presented talks to the British Computer Society and the Royal Aeronautical Society on ‘Controlling Satellites in Space’. I am also involved in the internal QA system whereby I am responsible for performing Quality Audits on other projects within the company. Key achievements: Supporting the UK’s armed forces communications with minimal interruptions including software installation, operating system upgrades and hardware upgrades on the live satellite control system. Supplying a complete backup satellite control system, from proposal to installation on site, within 11 months (ahead of schedule and on budget). Reconfiguration and upgrade of the ESOF system to work with multiple hardware architectures (VAX and Alpha). Developed and presented training courses for the hardware architecture upgrade, backup control system and automation upgrades to the ESOF system.
