TBWA\ had some of the best creatives in the industry today and many are heading up agencies or departments all over Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand - and we were this tiny little department in this fresh digital advertising landscape.This team was fearless, there was nothing we wouldn't try and solve with our parent agency and for our clients. Questions like "can you flip a website upside down?" would set me off on a sleepless night of research and development. This was my first real developer role working with an incredible and talented team of various colleagues and managers over the years, spearheading the new web revolution in banking.I was privileged to work on the primary South African brochure site, the Isle of Man brochure site and Gallery sites and my role at the bank ended with me being the front-end developer for their Internet Banking platform trying to ensure a consistent look and feel across all of the browsers for all of the computers and operating systems.Things were all about speed, how fast could we get our homepage to load...and can it be faster than the other banks. I learnt so much about file weight, image design and optimisation, running leaner code and servers. We tried to improve ways of doing things all the time.Some of my favourite teams and individual achievements are:- Fastest loading time of all the banks for a couple months- We were the first team to break one million hits on our homepage in a month- Wrote the forms and validation for the Credit Card and Savings accounts products - some of those forms stayed in production for over seven years- One of the forms I helped to write validation on generated over a Billion Rand in business for the Bank in a year- Helped implemented the banks first working CMS for the website and wrote most of the template code.- I was the only developer in the bank who was allowed to work on the Financial Results announcements for the web releases for 3 yearsRoles and Responsibilities:- Representing the department at internal IT production meetings- Engaging with internal clients to understand their needs- Building, testing and implementing client needs or changes- Building and maintaining site functionality and content- Managing the banks domains- Wrote the coding standards for the inter- and intranets so that the CI would be consistent
