I am a Ledbury Town Council and Herefordshire Ward Councillor for Ledbury, being first elected to the Town Council in a by-election in 2018 and then to both councils in the main election of 2019. I was elected Mayor of Ledbury in 2019 and later in the year I was the LibDem Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Herefordshire North (my third time as a PPC), coming a respectable 2nd to the sitting MP and being one of only 5 LibDem candidates in the 59 West Midlands constituencies to take second place (we gained no LibDem MPs that year).I chair the Ledbury Neighbourhood Development Plan working party which is revising our current plan adopted in 2019 and which I also helped to produce, so I have a great deal of NDP and local planning experience. In 2021 I was elected as Ledbury's Deputy Mayor and also as chair of the important Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee of Herefordshire Council.I own and run a small business building on hard earned experience of getting fit and healthy again after my wife died some years ago (turning my life around to include long distance running and to my amazement now counting over 300 finished marathons to my name) I established 'Ed & Phil' with fellow runner Edward Chapman, but now own and run the company myself. We sell mainly indirect through a channel of independent and small chain retail outlets throughout the UK, although we also have a direct sales internet based shop. Our combination of products and experience proved to be an attractive market proposition in our aim to become the 'Ben & Jerry' of the fitness and health world, but given my recent councillor commitments it takes a secondary role in my life at present.We used to have several distributor and agency relationships with a number of brands, including ENGO blister prevention patches, Wigwam socks, SOLE foot-beds and Silverpoint headtorches and socks, but now just sell ENGO and Silverpoint after the other two pulled out of the UK market. I keep it going for when I maybe retire from politics as a future income growth opportunity. Our business focus has always been on the trail and off-road running market.'Ed & Phil' has also written and self-published several books on running, fitness and health including a runners' training log which we still sell and customise by individual shop. I have professional qualifications of a Warwick MBA, a DipM from the Chartered Institute of Marketing and I am a Chartered Marketer. My many years of experience in business include over a decade as an international routes to marketing consultant to the IT industry.
