I have over 15 years of experience in genomics, including 7 years in bioinformatics and R programming. I have led research and R Shiny app development projects that advance our understanding of cancer and metabolic diseases. Additionally, I developed a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)-based image classifier for pancreatic cancer, which I presented in collaboration with an academic research group at the American Association for Cancer Research (2024).I also have data science experience managing and maintaining cancer genomics and variant data on Amazon Web Services (AWS). I am passionate about leveraging multi-omics data to uncover disease mechanisms and advance patient care.

Genomic ScientstVelsera Jan 2023 - PresentCharlestown, Ma, UsSeven Bridges was acquired and turned into Velsera. As a Genomic Scientist in this position, I have developed a deep understanding of the R programming language and built platforms, managed and helped analyze data, and led projects for consortiums across the NIH, FDA, and various academic institutions. Furthermore, I have fostered ongoing collaborations and developed teaching materials for seminars and workshops on the topics of single-cell RNA-seq and the use of common workflow language analysis pipelines on our platforms.I'm also involved in machine learning outcomes to develop use cases for machine learning tools for researchers. -

Postdoctoral FellowUniversity Of Michigan Jun 2019 - Jun 2021Ann Arbor, Michigan, UsI investigate endothelial cells and their contribution to adipocyte dysfunction and diabetes in visceral adipose tissue (VAT). Endothelial cells derived from adipose tissue of diabetic and non-diabetic obese patients are used to perform functional assays for angiogenesis, nitrous oxide, and lipid trafficking. Our lab found distinct sub-populations of endothelial cells within the VAT niche that may contribute to or possibly ameliorate diabetic pathology. Alongside mouse models for diabetes and obesity, we seek to characterize these sub-populations and elucidate how they interface with adipocytes and resident macrophages. -
Phd CandidateUt Health San Antonio Apr 2013 - Jun 2019San Antonio, Tx, UsI received an F31 grant from the National Institute on Aging to study the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in sarcopenia and longevity, using the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans. When the insulin signaling pathway is disrupted, adult animals exhibit an extended life- and health span compared to their wild-type cohort. We believe this is due to an increase in the mitochondrial specific degradation pathway called mitophagy. The constant recycling and disposal of dysfunctional mitochondria in this model of longevity may be responsible for their enhanced health span. -
Graduate Teaching AssistantUt Health San Antonio Sep 2015 - Sep 2015San Antonio, Tx, UsI gave lectures on topics in cellular and molecular biology to incoming PhD. Students so that they had sufficient background to begin their introductory coursework. These included DNA repair mechanisms, genetics, creation and use of transgenic models, and methodologies in molecular biology and genetics. -
