Profile bio

About Phillip Levin

I am a theoretical physicist, theologian, writer, and author.I am a Ph.D. student in theoretical physics at Arizona State University. I earned my M.S. in physics from California State University, Los Angeles, where I was a RISE M.S.-to-Ph.D. Fellow, and my B.S. in physics from the University of California, San Diego. I am generally interested in theoretical physics, cosmology, philosophy, and theology. My research is at the intersection of cosmology, black holes, and quantum gravity. Currently, I am working on topics related to nonsingular black holes, primordial black holes as dark matter, cosmic expansion, and the theology of physics. My M.S. thesis was on using black hole collisions to test general relativity and quantum gravity motivated modified theories of gravity. During summer 2021, I conducted research on dark photons at CERN, as a member of the ATLAS team with funding from the National Science Foundation. My first scientific research experiences were through my summer research at UCLA and UC Riverside. I conducted research related to complex biophysical systems, including the human brain, neural synapses, and neurons. My studies of the circuitry of the brain inspired my interest in theoretical physics. I have had numerous teaching roles over the years. I am a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Department of Physics at Arizona State University, where I have helped teach undergraduate courses on classical mechanics and electromagnetism. Previously, I was a Teaching Associate in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at California State University, Los Angeles. I have also taught a course on preparing for college-level physics for Upward Bound Math & Science at Moreno Valley College, worked as a Supplemental Instructor at Riverside City College, and as a substitute teacher for public school districts in California. In addition to my research, I write fiction. I am the author of “The Best View Money Can Buy,” a collection of fiction stories about humanity, science, technology, and the future.I have many personal interests and enjoy the challenge of pushing myself to understand as much as I can about everything. In my spare time I like reading, writing, and learning more about many topics. I also like to swim, lift weights, and hike with friends.Learn more about me at PhillipLevin.com.
