As a Nuclear Safety Consultant I provide support to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme, through production and update to a range of nuclear safety and assurance documentation on behalf of the Submarine Delivery Agency and the NSRP Technical Authority. Work is primarily centred around the substantiation and justification of nuclear safety essential SSCs, ensuring compliance with relevant Defence Safety Authority Regulations (DNSR), Authorised/Licensed Site Conditions, and Legislation.

As a Senior Nuclear Safety Consultant, I have completed a wide range of activities that include delivery of technical engineering projects, successful bidding of prospects, creation and implementation of Innovative ideas and project management.To compliment my underpinning nuclear engineering experience I have successfully completed professional development in Nuclear Safety Case writing: Legislative requirements; Safety Justification; Engineering Substantiation; Deterministic Safety Analysis Probabilistic Safety Analysis (Level 1) Consequence Assessment (Level 2 & 3); Safety principles, Design targets and Numerical Targets; ALARP.These Nuclear Safety Case writing skills have enabled me to take my safety case engineering skills to a high level of competence, and to successfully produce Safety Case Reports, Safety Justifications, Engineering Substantiation Reports, chairing HAZID, HAZOP & HAZAN Studies and production of FMEA/FMECA, in support of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme.

Managed teams of up to 10 engineering technicians in confined and extreme conditions on board nuclear powered submarines. Managed the team’s objectives, work packages, risks and concessions. Provided excellent situational leadership skills to motivate and galvanise the team to achieve repeated success. Developed preventative and corrective maintenance on systems whilst on operation and during Assisted Maintenance Periods (AMP). These systems included but are not limited to HP/LP Steam, HP/LP Air, Pumps, Valves, Oil, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, Waste, Water, Hydraulic, Steam Turbines, Turbo- Generators, Bearings, Coupling, Seals, and Compressors. This maximised the mean time to repair (MTTR) and mean time between failures (MTBF) and increased the reliability of systems. Effective diagnostics and fault finding through technical knowledge, experience and an analytical approach to successfully identify systems defects. Utilised creative problem solving in order to maintain operability and limit downtime whilst rectifying defects.
