Best known for structuring and delivering complex projects in commercial, mixed use, and multi-family real estate spaces, RocaPoint's partners also benefit from Phil’s early expertise in loss mitigation and repositioning of distressed real estate assets and portfolios. His business, legal and project analysis expertise springs from a base combining law, business and government. Phil came to RocaPoint – and real estate – by a circuitous route. An on-air sports reporter for a Florida ABC affiliate, he also contracted with CNN, ESPN, and Miami’s own WTVJ – interviewing NFL and NBA greats from Shaquille O’Neal, Dan Marino, Steve Spurrier and Emmit Smith to NBA team President Pat Riley and long-time Dolphins coach Don Shula. This early sports industry background sparked RocaPoint’s entry into professional sports real estate (advising and developing for the PGA TOUR since 2013, and growing this focus as more professional teams win the rights to develop land).From sports reporting, Phil turned to law and emerged as a high-performing commercial real estate counsel in an Atlanta firm before becoming Corporate Counsel in charge of Real Estate for Racetrac Petroleum. He subsequently spent a decade-plus in commercial real estate development across the Southeastern US. Prior to RocaPoint, as Director and Chief Legal Officer for the EverBank (formerly TIAA Bank) Commercial Special Servicing Division, Phil launched and headed a Commercial Special Assets Department managing $1.5B+ in CRE-backed debt. A recognized expert in commercial real estate development and investment, Phil has served as a Board member on many government organizations – North FL Transportation Organization (the N FL DOT Advisory Board), a Governor-appointed Board of County Commissioners role – and spoken at industry conferences in New York, Miami, Atlanta and Chicago. He currently serves on the University of Florida Law School Board of Trustees.A member of the Florida and Georgia Bars, Phil holds a law degree and BA from the University of Florida, and Harvard Business School Leadership Certification in Financial Organizations.
