I’m a Professor of Psychology at the Centre for Appearance Research at UWE Bristol, the worlds largest research centre focused on body image and appearance psychology. I’m also the Founder and CEO of EVERYBODY Consulting, a global consulting group of thought leaders and social scientist experts in body image, appearance diversity and mental health. What unites all the strands of my work is a strong sense of social justice, a passion for science, and drive to help others do well in business by doing good in society. I’ve spent 20 years studying and researching psychology, body image, appearance diversity and mental health. This included a PhD in Health Psychology at The University of Queensland, where my award-winning research focused on the health and business benefits of body size representation in advertising. Post-PhD, I’ve spent over a decade in academia where I’ve published over 100 peer-reviewed papers investigating body image, appearance diversity and mental health in countries across the globe, including the UK, Australia, India, Brazil, Indonesia, USA and Sweden. My research has featured in the New York Times, BBC, Forbes, Time, Vogue, and teaching case studies at Harvard Business School and School of Public Health. The evidence-based body image programmes I’ve helped to create have been delivered to over 100 million people in 153 countries, in partnership with leading social-purpose driven brands and organisations like Dove, UNICEF, Nike, Instagram and Cartoon Network. I founded EVERYBODY Consulting, where our global team of thought leaders and social scientist experts consult with powerhouse brands and organisations like Dove, Nike, Instagram and NHS England to disrupt beauty and gender norms, and create more equitable societies.
