My primary duties were to install and troubleshoot Dynamic Positioning systems on drill ships and support vessels. This involved providing technical support to customers worldwide via phone, email, and service visits. Some of the equipment that I worked on included gps units, dynamic positioning hardware, gyrocompasses, and hydro-acoustic position reference units.While performing service visits I maintained detailed reports of the steps performed in my duties. Upon completion of service, I was responsible for updating Kongsberg's database with the status of the vessel as well as revised schematic diagrams of installed equipment.

While in port, my primary duty was to monitor the reactor plant as Shutdown Reactor Operator. As Shutdown Reactor Operator, I was responsible for ensuring heat removal from the reactor, and adherence to the temperature and pressure stress limits of reactor plant structures. While shutdown and cooled down, the reactor must be maintained within a narrow and strict range of conditions. This required careful monitoring and attention to detail in order to observe the numerous restrictions established by the reactor's technical manuals. In order to maintain proper heat removal, I coordinated with and advised action for multiple personnel through out the engine room. In addition to monitoring plant conditions, I was responsible for understanding and monitoring the progress of the numerous maintenance items occurring through out the engine room.

As a Reactor Operator on a U.S. nuclear submarine, I was responsible for the safe operation of a pressurized water reactor. This involved monitoring several parameters, like reactor power and and pressure, to maximize reactor efficiency while providing the propulsion and electrical power required by the command crew. Operation of the reactor plant required clear, concise, and continuous communication between myself and several individuals of my watch team. Each action required coordination between multiple individuals, each responsible for different equipment.

As an Electronics Technician I performed preventative and corrective maintenance on reactor instrumentation and control equipment. This involved electronics troubleshooting skills as well as the ability to navigate and understand intricate procedures spanning several technical manuals. Each piece of instrumentation directly affected the operation of the reactor, which required that I have a comprehensive understanding of the reactor plant and the effects of the maintenance on plant operation. In addition to the condition of the reactor, I had to consider the operational requirements of the submarine and the limitations that my maintenance would impose. Constant consideration of these conditions taught me to maintain the context of the larger picture while being able to focus on the details of my work.I was responsible for preparing and maintaining the documentation associated with all maintenance on reactor safety equipment. Over a two year period, I prepared hundreds of pages of paperwork accurately and ahead of schedule. Also during this period, I excelled in my personal qualifications.
