As a management employee for AT&T for fifteen years Dan Phillips was a part of the divestiture of 1982, and was a witness to the large number of changes in AT&T’s new infrastructure. Because Dan was recognized by AT&T as having exceptional organizational skills, he was placed in a team leadership role working closely with large consulting firms like, Anderson Consulting, EDS, and many others. Dan was very much involved with the preparations for the Deming Prize. As a member of the Deming preparations team, Dan was an intricate part of the final success in allowing AT&T Power Systems to be the only manufacturing facility in the United States to ever win the Deming Prize. He was promoted several times for his successes with each assignment. Elected as a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff (DMTS), At his retirement he was managing a computer aided design group within Bell Laboratories – Microelectronics in Dallas Texas.
