    Digital Media Specialist
Phil Shaw Digital Media Dec 2004 - Present
    Norwich, United Kingdom
Graphic / Web Design - Ongoing.During the course of my professional career I have been given the opportunity to produce commercial work for a myriad of industries across the globe. I love working with startups to support their development through web / graphic design and regularly work with small and medium enterprises. My work includes developing client brands from inception to deployment encompassing the visual identity of the business as well as any collateral necessary to support the brand. This is not limited to web/screen but also print material. I natively develop websites on the Wordpress platform and have extensive experience in creating robust solutions for client needs. A website is quite often the 'front' of a business and needs to both look and feel great. I am a 50/50 split between developer and designer that loves smashing a client's expectations by being able to deliver a great online presence. I have worked with some awesome clients in some far off places and enjoy the challenge for designing for different markets. Visit my People Per Hour profile for a more comprehensive list of these great people. I was asked by Gordon Beckett, Head of Design for The Sunday Times, to work with his design team at News International to demonstrate Cinema 4D and how they can introduce to software more prominently in their work. I produced several lighting rigs that are now in use for print and digital renders featured in “Ingear” and other Sunday Times sections. Additionally I produced Illustrator graphics that went to print in the “Business” section.

  • Blanc Creative
    Creative Genius
Blanc Creative May 2012 - Present
    Norwich, United Kingdom
In 2012 I started working with Lee Blanchflower Photography initially in an advisory capacity to help with social media strategy and optimisation. Since the inception of Blanc Creative I have actively engaged in strengthening the brands social media presence by implementing new practices and measuring success. Being the Creative Guru allows me to exercise my vision and direct the flow of production. I am responsible for the quality of our moving image production as well as the direction of the videographers and photographers within our business. Being a Creative Director does not just extend to our location work and means that I get to create new services and products. I recently implemented a "Stock Imaging" section to our website which has allowed us to accommodate many different clients with stock photos and moving image. In the near future we will be launching our workshop series to tutor photographers and cinematographers.I use enterprise level SEO packages to, analyse and implement changes to our sites and social media networks to reflect competitor changes and 'fan' demand. I regularly create reports that highlight what we need to focus on to achieve company goals and increase both a return on investment and a return on engagement. As a result we have had tweets from A-List celebrities to hundreds of thousands of followers on twitter that yielded a massive return on engagement as measured through twitter statistics and unique web hits.I also undertake editing work from our Commercial shoots starting from raw images/film through to finished professional edits. Being an integral part of Blanc Creative has allowed me to explore the avenue of professional editing and I look forward to exciting projects in the future.
  • Norwich Premier Security Services
    Assistant Security Manager

    East Anglia
I have been involved in security since 2008. Most recently I was Security manager for the gate teams for the Olympic Torch celebrations in Norwich. My responsibilities included: Managing 14 frontline security officers and liaising with 4 other teams of roaming security patrols. Answering to Norfolk Constabulary and Norwich City Council. Maintaining the safety of over 22,000 people. I was security supervisor for the "beer tent" at Chapel Field Gardens Lord Mayors Precession 2011 and 2012 responsible for 8 security officers and up to 2000 people, including the safety of children. I act as Doorman at venues across the city working with other teams of Doorman regularly. Amongst the staff that were there also had two security dogs on patrol at all times.I have been part of major events and have had no major incidents to report. I built up further favour with Local Licensing for operating efficeintly under strenuous circumstances at the Chapel Field event with regard to the welfare of minors in a busy crowded area. I am also happy to report that Spark in the Park went smoothly for our operations and we had a 100% safe and closed compound for 17hrs without any infringement.I am Conflict Management trained, Physical Intervention trained and Counter Terrorism trained as part of the Project Griffin initiative.
  • Cog Media Group
    Web And Social Strategist
Cog Media Group Mar 2011 - Nov 2012
    Ardney Rise, Norwich Uk
I was Web and Social Strategist for COG Media Group in Norwich. I was responsible for analysing clients existing web and/or social strategy to further understand their current demographic. I then proactively worked to enhance their current portfolios or work to develop a new strategy that better fits their business needs. Having a strong communication policy isn't just about developing ROI but also ROE (return on engagement) every "listener" has value, even if they don't buy something or use the service you offer. I develop strategies that will increase ROE and in turn create a loyal 'fan' base. I develop strategy for many web technologies aside from Facebook or Twitter, such as; Instagram, Foursquare, Pinterest, Reverbnation, Google+ and many more depending on the nature of your business. Having a mis-managed web or social strategy is even worse than having none at all. Whilst having no social engagement may not help your business having bad communication will damage it. It's imperative to us at COG that your business fulfills it's potential across deployment mediums.I use a comprehensive suite of measuring tools to analyse the effectiveness of the strategies we develop to illustrate how they benefit your business and customers.
  • Norwich University College Of The Arts
Social Interaction And Engagment Project Tutor
Norwich University College Of The Arts Feb 2012 - Jul 2012
    Monastery Media Lab, Nuca
In January 2012 I was approached by Norwich University College of the Arts, specifically Games Art & Design, to tutor students on a commercial project for the Archant Group. It was my responsibility to develop the student project from an idea into a product. The project involved developing a platform for socially engaging with readers of Archant’s publications, The EDP and The Evening News, in an effort to attract new ‘younger’ readers. The focus of the project was gamification and what we could do to integrate the Archant brand into a social platform that people could, and would, use. Although students on Games Art & Design are exposed to concepts of ‘play’ and ‘immersion’ the social interaction platform is new and complex. I worked through and reiterated the importance of risk and reward and how that’s applicable to social media platforms. We developed traditional marketing practices into digital deliverables. We focused on understanding demographic and developing for ‘your’ audience. Broadcasting is a word I’d like to have wiped out of social media, replaced by Narrowcasting. We studied the theories of real-world engagement and how that translates to social platforms in order to understand how to target our message.Mentoring students is a rewarding activity. I always strive to impart some sort of knowledge on people that I work with and then when it’s your ‘job’ to teach it really allows you to help mold a person and test yourself.
  • Freshstart Office Ltd
    Venue Manager
Freshstart Office Ltd Aug 2004 - Mar 2012
I have recently left my fulltime employment of seven years with Freshstart Leisure Ltd as the Venue Manager of Office° Bar in Norwich, this was not through choice but because the director decided to sell the business. I started working at Optic° Nightclub in 2004 when I turned eighteen as the club bar glass collector. By my nineteenth birthday I was Supervisor of the VIP lounge with the responsibility to oversee the smooth operation of the VIP bar and it’s staff. Shortly after becoming Supervisor I was promoted to the position of ‘Head Supervisor’. I was made a keyholder of the venue as part of my responsibility was to make sure the venue was operational, for example; develop the duty rota for the evening for fifteen staff, ensuring each bar had sufficient change reserves, making and distributing till floats to each till around the venue, accessing and securing the safe and handling any staff related issues. I stopped working for Optic° Nightclub and became ‘General Venue Manager’ of Office° Bar, which is owned by the same person. I took on additional responsibilities to those mentioned above, for example; I answered directly to the owner/director, I totally managed the venue from hiring and firing staff to weekly trade accounts and petty case. I had full access to all aspects of business and it was my job to manage and maintain our publicly evident high standards. As well as my role as the Manager of the venue I was also the principle doorman along with two others at the weekend. This meant that aside from the official Designated Premises Supervisor, which I acted as, I was the frontline contact for any Statutory Agent, Police, licensing etc. This has given the ability to communicate with important people on a professional level. I have experienced many situations working within this environment some of which have been physically and emotionally taxing but has inevitably equipped me to handle stressful and potentially dangerous situations.
