About Phillip Leung
Hello everyone! I am Phillip Leung, a recent graduate from the Univeristy of California, Davis with a B.S. in Animal Science. I am currently applying to medical school, and am looking for work as an ER technician. I have worked as an EMT for 2 years, serving both urban and rural counties (LA, Sacramento, Yolo County, etc.). This job has taught me the importance of competency, communication, and gratefulness. I have also led the UC Davis Esports. Rainbow Six Blue Team as Captain. In the future, I hope to work as a military surgeon, participating in humanitarian missions.

Phillip Leung work experience

Undergraduate Research Assistant
As an undergraduate research assistant in the Baar Functional Molecular Biology Laboratory, I assisted Dr. Keith Baar and Dr. Kevin Paulussen in their exercise-related projects. I helped conduct a clinical study regarding blood serum exosomal RNA levels before and after exercise. I helped to set up and calibrate the lab's first robotic pipetter, the Opentrons-2 (OT-2). I designed protocols (e.g. cell feeding, dot blotting, and fluid transfer) for the robot. I also tested the effects of 8,000 natural chemicals on mice tendon cell lines via dot blotting and luciferase analysis. I conducted protein analysis of various tendon cell samples via Western Blotting. Independently, I maintained cell lines for our studies.
Emergency Medical Technician
As an EMT, I respond to various calls and am responsible for triaging, treating, and transporting the patient. I perform patient assessments, take vitals, open airways, perform CPR, etc. I am also responsible for communicating patient information and other pertinent information with other emergency responders, family members/friends, and hospital staff. I maintain accurate patient care reports and ensure adquate ambulance/station inventory. Our job is to save lives!
Emergency Medical Technician
Under the direction of a nurse or respiratory therapist, I would provide treatment to patients requiring Critical Care Transports. Independently with another EMT, we would transport patients to and from health care facilities and their housing. Before and after shift, I would carefully restock equipment in the ambulance. I also ensured that all equipment, such as O2 units, suctions, EKG, and AEDs, were functioning properly. I would also clearly and concisely communicate relevant patient information to other responders, friends and family members, and other hospital staff. I would also accurately document patient information and treatments applied in electronic and/or paper reports.
Tutor
As a tutor, I was responsible for teaching and grading students. My goals included encouraging students to self-study, ask for help when needed, develop time-management and study strategies, and increase their interest in learning. I also held parent-student conferences, relaying student progress, goals, and achievements/setbacks. This job has taught me the importance of patience. Not every student is the same, and not every strategy works. Furthermore, this job has taught me the importance of having big dreams. Children often come up with crazy stories and fantasies. To me, it is important to keep this spark of "big dreams" alive in children as they grow up. This supports the self-esteem of students well into their adult years.
