About Phillip Stovold
I create and operationalise new businesses, projects and programmes, focusing on the intersection of business and international development, mainly in Africa. I have been helping make amazing and innovative things happen, using a holistic approach, for more than thirty years. My transition from managing and owning a UK retail and water-sports training businesses, where I delivered a 10-fold business expansion with 25% CAGR, to a focus on social development and environmental protection started when we set up a new training centre on the coast, in 2004, in Kenya. Specialising in the UNFCCC CDM I started securing climate finance for reforestation and biofuels projects. As renewables became viable I moved upstream, supporting the full spectrum of the development cycle of clean energy projects, doing everything from searching the forests of Cameroon for large waterfalls, surveying them and engaging the communities surrounding them, to negotiating development rights with energy ministries and PPAs with regulators. More recently work has included advising Greenpeace on their renewable energy started, setting up a fintech for them in Europe, supporting the EU on Energy Community development and spending 15 months setting up operations for a new mini-grid company in Rwanda.I have set up and secured PE finance for a 100MW of run-of-river hydropower programme in Cameroon, supported solar PV developers and other businesses, whilst delivering training and mentoring across Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Uganda, South Africa, Malawi and many other places. Now I am building a small utility in Burundi using a Community Energy Cooperative approach developed from work done in the EU. If you’re potential investor or want mentoring to advance your career or establish a business, please get in touch or book a call.
Listed skills include Project Management, Sustainability, Renewable Energy, Strategy, and 6 others.
