The Foundation is the only charity in the world dedicated exclusively to protecting the Great Barrier Reef through raising funds for scientific research. The Foundation was established in 2000 in response to the United Nations World Heritage Convention encouraging countries with world heritage sites to establish a national foundation whose purpose is to invite donations for their protection. It leads the collaboration of business, science, government and philanthropy – groups who would not otherwise come together – for the benefit of the Reef. Our success is due to the quality of institutions and people we bring together – harnessing advances in science, technology and industry to ensure a future for this global treasure.Working closely with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, it funds priority projects that help protect and restore the Great Barrier Reef and build its resilience in the face of major threats. At the Foundation I Chair the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee.

Queensland Rail is a statutory authority with a turnover of $1.9 billion and an asset base of $7.1 billion. It operates the Citytrain, Travel and Tourism, and Regional Network and Freight for Queensland. It has 6,500 employees, maintains around 6,600 km of track and has around 51 million passenger trips per annum. Following a major failure of the Citytrain timetable in October 2016, the Queensland government asked me to lead a Commission of Inquiry into train crewing practices which resulted in 36 recommendations addressing major issues in Queensland Rail and transforming it into a modern-day world class operator. All the recommendations were fully supported and embraced by the Queensland government. As a part of the implementation of the recommendations, and the need to upskill Queensland Rail, I was asked by the Queensland government to join the board as its Chair. In addition, I sit on each of the three board sub-committees: Audit & Risk; Projects & Procurement; and People & Safety. I lead a board of seven as we drive an agenda of response and recovery, major cultural change, a refocus on customers, and the delivery of numerous major capital projects including $4.4 billion of new rolling stock.
