In 2003 my wife got a new job requiring us to move (which we have done twice, and are preparing to do again). I took the leap from being a "regular employee" and joined the ranks of the self employed.I write web applications running on a traditional LAMP stack using Perl and HTML::Mason. I volunteered for a remote duty assignment on the tiny island of Shemya in hopes of being able to select my follow on duty assignment. I was deathly afraid of talking in front of a group of people. But, I also knew that if that was my job I would get very good at it. (That is how I roll.) When the call for volunteers to teach came to our lab, I jumped on the opportunity.I was taught to teach and shoved into a classroom where the students had kids older than I was. The Air Force taught me to maintain, repair and troubleshoot electronic equipment down to the component level. I worked in the Precision Measuring Equipment Laboratory (PMEL) as a bench technician calibrating test equipment.
