Exceptional award winning writer who has topped the Sunday Times Best Seller list four years in a row with his pithy account of life in a hamlet which has been widely acknowledged by the great and the good as "One of the most brilliantly written memoirs ever written." (Stephen Fry).I previously ran all the Fortune 100 intranet and social media systems single handedly whilst running 52 marathons a year, selling out stadia around the world as a rock star and splitting the atom in my spare time - in my shed; using just a chisel. In my spare time I ran for US President but lost out to that orange twat.

I represented BT Wholesale in discussions relating to the future of the BT Intranet.
I was responsible globally for the delivery of Unilever’s intranet. As a global organisation the framework within which the intranet was delivered was a challenging experience, as different countries had very differing needs. My primary role was to identify new technologies (Microsoft Sharepoint) to rationalise a number of country intranets and work with publishers to migrate to a companywide content management system including document management and records management. I represented the business requirements and had responsibility to the head of internal communications to improve the effectiveness of the intranet as a communications channel and as an on-line task orientated tool. The role was a 12 month contract, which was subsequently extended by two months.
I was responsible for all aspects of internal communications channels including the intranet, online applications, document and information management and day to day support to provide internal consumers with easy access to the information they needed to do their jobs. The last website I delivered was considered to be best in class within BT; for the way it was implemented, governed, and also for the efficient way the content management system was introduced. It was used as the model for the other lines of business in BT to follow. I received a silver ‘Arrow Award’ (BT internal recognition scheme) to acknowledge my contribution to the business in 2005.Regularly spoke at external conferences representing BT and delivering the strategic stories and outlined the practical plans for the evolution of the various intranets and lessons learnt along the way. Implemented Internal Communications channels (electronic) strategy and policy to embed the new approach into the business.Introduction of editorial standards and guidelines supported by newly implemented Governance processes, including a helpdesk.Implementation of suitable tactical delivery channels that aligned with BT Wholesale and BT communications strategies. Strengthened measurement processes and introduced new monitoring tools. Introduction of social media tools; inc personalised online news channel (‘The Bizz’) and ’Bizz onAir’; a phone in business radio show.Introduced feedback channels for users on content.Managed a virtual team based in different geographical locations.Rationalised 660 local websites comprising of 116,000 pages into one website with 3500 pages and 200 publishers and reduced web publishing training costs by 90%. Rationalised communications channels in the estate with savings of circa £60,000 in the first quarter of 2006 and reducing the number of different tools from 15 to six.
The BT Group Human Resources website won the Personnel Today “Award for HR Excellence through Technology” in 2000. It was used as a case study in the Essential Design Handbook series “What is web design?” by Nico MacDonald.I was instrumental in creating the HR Intranet and on-line eHR strategies. I lead on their implementation and project managed the design and delivery of the web-site, during which time I also successfully introduced a content management system; the first in BT originally instigated at my request. These sites formed the basis for the implementation of the additional on-line ‘People’ system used worldwide by BT today.
