Made in Miami, Phil’s passion for radio began at an early age while growing up in the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami. His first language was Spanish, but English radio was a significant influence during his journey through childhood. While attending Miami Springs Senior High, his TV production teacher was one of the first mentors to inspire him to follow his dreams of working in the TV/radio industry. Once he graduated in 1990, he enrolled in the TV/radio program at Miami Dade Community College-South Campus. A year later, it was time for Phil to start an internship in the industry, and he remembers opening up the phone book and calling all of the local TV and radio stations in South Florida; the first one to call him back was WHQT/Hot 105. He accepted an intern position that set him on a successful course and radio career. Phil is responsible for signing on CMG’s WPYO in Orlando in 1999 and WPYM Party 93.1 in Miami in 2001 (currently broadcasting on 93.1HD2 in South Florida). In March of 2006, Phil's career came full circle when he returned to WHQT/Hot 105 as Program Director.Hot 105 consistently ranks as the leader in South Florida ratings and celebrated 38 years on the air, serving and entertaining South Florida. Phil and his teams have won the prestigious N.A.B. Marconi award for “Urban Station of the Year” 4 times in 2014, 2017, 2019, and 2023, with seven nominations since 2008. Phil also received the “Innovator” award from Billboard magazine in 2002 for his work and vision with WPYM (Party 93.1 - Miami), and Radio Ink has acknowledged him as one of the country’s “BEST PD’s” 2 times in his career. Phil’s career with CMG is going into its 30th year as a programmer and former Urban format leader during his tenure. In June 2020, Phil was responsible for overseeing Miami’s #1 AC brand, WFEZ Easy 93.1. In September 2021, Phil was tapped to take on the legendary WEDR 99 Jamz as its Director of Branding and Programming, overseeing all CMG Miami’s Urban brands. In January 2023, Phil was promoted to Director of Operations for CMG Miami.
